Why You Should Never Wear Shoes Without Socks

Why You Should Never Wear Shoes Without Socks

There is nothing worse than being uncomfortable in your clothes or shoes. Any confidence you feel when wearing your favorite dress or slacks goes out the door when you trip over your own two feet because your socks are so dang uncomfortable!

This causes a lot of us to skip the socks altogether and go barefoot when wearing our favorite shoes. We never recommend going commando in the foot department and we are going to give you a few good reasons as to why.

1. Socks act as a physical barrier.

Think of your socks as an extra protective layer. Any sweat coming from your foot is completely blocked from destroying your shoes because of the barrier your socks provide. When you go barefoot and you sweat in your shoes (which most of us inevitably do), the sweat will begin to break down your shoes and they won’t last as long. Plus, did you know your feet sweat up to 1 liter per day?
2. Bacteria and Infections
We all know the feeling of walking around barefoot in our shoes all day. We sweat and that sweat is getting pushed all around our shoes. Not only is this super uncomfortable but it is creating a perfect moist environment for bacteria and infections to thrive.

3. Blisters

Blisters are caused by friction when your shoes are poorly fitted and rubbing up against your skin. Going barefoot when wearing shoes promotes a poorly fitted shoe which will then most likely cause some of that friction. Blisters hurt like heck and can really put a cramp in your step.

4. Stinky Feet

You don’t want to be that person who needs to hide when taking their shoes off because the smell is so unpleasant. Wearing no socks promotes sweat to hang around longer than we’d like since we don’t have socks to absorb any of it. It’s the bacteria in our sweat that causes the unpleasant odor in our shoes. Plus, our feet are two of the sweatiest parts of our body.

5. Temperature and Moisture Control

Do you always get really sweaty feet or always have cold toes? Socks can act as a control for both temperature and moisture. This can help minimize sweat and breeding of bacteria which leaves you with fresh happy and dry feet.

There are many more important reasons why it’s never a good idea to go commando when it comes to our feet. Beyond the not-so-pretty stuff like blisters and infections, socks are a fun way to express your personality and bring any outfit to the next level.
